Party Food

Birthday parties, cocktail parties, and receptions all have one thing in common - delicious foods that are high in calories, sugar and fat. There are alternatives! Here are a few suggestions to help you avoid temptation:
  • Don't go to social events feeling hungry. Eat a light meal or healthy snack before leaving home.
  • Focus on the people at the party, not the food. Talk to everyone you know and get to know the people you don't.
  • Try to feel relaxed. Don't use food as a way to calm yourself if you are rushed or nervous.
  • Manage portions. Serve yourself and take the appropriate amount for you.
  • Cut down on your contact with food. Don't stand around a buffet table or let dishes of food be placed next to your plate on the table.
  • At the buffet, look over everything before you make your choices. Only go through the line once - don't go back for seconds. Choose foods that are the most likely to keep you on your personal health track such as fresh fruits and vegetables.
