Specially marked Campbell’s soup varieties to offer plantable tomato seeds for limited time

TORONTO, April 20, 2021 – Canadians can now enjoy Campbell’s® soup along with an opportunity to plant and grow their own tomatoes at home. In honour of Earth Week, Campbell Company of Canada is announcing the release of limited edition Campbell’s Creamy Tomato and Garden Vegetable Minestrone soups featuring plantable tomato seeds on the specially marked cans. These tomato seeds are embedded on a plantable paper disc that was developed in collaboration with Seminis® brand– a key tomato seed supplier that provides seeds to the farmers who grow and harvest some of the tomatoes for Campbell’s soups.

The launch represents a larger initiative for both brands to inspire Canadians to celebrate sustainability and actively share in the journey of growing a more sustainable world.

“It is our mission at Campbell to build a more resilient food system, making food that matters and that improves the world we all share, for generations to come — starting with our supply chains,” said Mieka Burns, VP of Marketing at Campbell Canada. “We work closely with responsible farmers and seed companies to select the best ingredient varieties for our products, aiming to reduce waste and conserve natural resources where possible. This tomato seed campaign is an exciting opportunity for us to share with our consumers our ongoing support for sustainability and the efforts we’ve made in this area to-date.”

Seminis is also passionate about bringing fresh, high-quality and nutritious produce to consumers, and promoting their commitment to sustainability through this campaign.

“Seminis brand is proud to partner with Campbell Canada on this sustainability initiative, because it’s a natural extension of our ongoing relationship,” says Emily Standley, Communications Manager for the North America Vegetable Seeds business of Bayer’s Crop Science Division, of which Seminis is a part. “Farmers work hard to grow the food we eat and do it sustainably. This program shows consumers the journey their tomatoes take from the farm to their table by giving them the opportunity to participate at home in their own gardens. Seminis remains committed to our goal to provide more innovative and sustainable solutions for farmers so they can continue to support the food and nutritional needs for our growing world, while also caring for our planet.”

As an added element to the limited release of the tomato seeds, Campbell and Seminis are also launching a special microsite providing more information on the collaboration and sustainability efforts of both brands. The campaign site also features video spots highlighting the journey a tomato seed takes from the field to table, as well as helpful tips on how to best grow the tomato seeds at home.
